Hi

I'm working on a project and we are looking to install APs in a fairly hostile environment (dirt, dust) etc. We were loaned some 1310 AP/bridges but the client didn't like the cost. My question I am ordering some 1230 AGs, each with 2x 5.2dbi Omnis for coverage. Has anyone out there installed and used the 12309 with decoupled antennas. I would appreciate a heads up as to what maybe the issues with these APs. Personally I thought the 1310 was a good outdoor coverage solution.

Q1: I'm working on a project and we are looking to install APs in a fairly hostile environment (dirt, dust) etc. We were loaned some 1310 AP/bridges but the client didn't like the cost.

A1: When you consider the cost of the unit (includes an integrated antenna) and weatherproof enclosure the cost really does become much more attractive, so I'm not sure why that was an issue?.

Q2: My question I am ordering some 1230 AGs, each with 2x 5.2dbi Omnis for coverage. Has anyone out there installed and used the 12309 with decoupled antennas.

A2: Not sure what you mean by decoupled antennas other then to infer separate antennas being used for diversity rather then an integrated diversity antenna? One is free to use separate antennas so long as the antennas are within close proximity (say 4-10 Ft) apart, far enough to take advantage of diversity properties but not so far as to create different antenna coverage patterns. Diversity antennas should always cover the same RF coverage cell.

If this is an outdoor installation the multi-path is less of a problem and one could disable diversity and simply use one antenna. If this is done then you need to configure the AP or Bridge to use the primary (RIGHT) antenna.

Q3: I would appreciate a heads up as to what maybe the issues with these APs. Personally I thought the 1310 was a good outdoor coverage solution.

A3: No issues if coverage cell is 1 mile or less (Bridges will exceed 1 mile) but AP's are typically limited to 1 mile based on turn around ACK time is hard set on AP to comply with IEEE 802.11. Yes the 1310 is a very good solution :-)
