Ap1815i Config

Hi Everyone,

As a company we decided to introduce more robust wifi, we are currently using wap121 which have served their purpose, but due to Teams Voice and Video, they are not meeting our needs.

So I had a browse and plumped for the AP1815i model, I have purchased 1 to determine if this was right for our business; ease of installation etc.

With this model I can setup and control without the need to purchase a controller, unfortunately after I purchased this, I realised that it didnt have the Mobility Express built in. So I went through the process of converting from Capwap to MEXP.

So now to the questions:

1. I want this to be the controller and also offer wifi to users, can someone point me please to a document or website which gives you the cli commands to  configure it as a controller and setting up wifi? I am new to the Cisco wireless commands and a step by step would help, or at least to get a basic setup for it to function.

2. Once configured as both how do I then add any new AP to this  first AP as the controller.

Thanks.

I do not think we will be able to guide you through the complete configuration process here. But you may read and follow the below link for better understanding of how ME works.

1815 is announced EOS and EOL. So I would consider Catalyst 9000 series AP's. However to choose which AP model to run you need to read the data sheets as there are limitations as to how many AP's can register to EWC master AP and how many clients can use wireless at a given time.

Reach out to your Cisco vendor or AM/SE in your region to get the proper solution designed for you.

Thanks for the reply.

I do need enterprise level here, I will only need about 1-15AP, therefore the 1800 series will be fine.

Since I have purchased this AP I would like to get it to function as both Controller and wifi AP, to allow me then to setup any subsequent AP directly.
