AP802 (Cisco819) failed download of 8.3.102.0 load

All,

I have just redirected a VPN 819 with AP-802 on board to a new controller (5508) running 8.3.102.0  It was connected to a vWLC running 8.1.131.0 code and worked fine.

The AP will not upgrade to the 8.3 code and console output shows:

Feb  7 11:50:27.063: capwap_image_proc: problem extracting tar file

Download image failed, notify controller!!! From:8.1.131.0 to 0.0.0.0, FailureCode:3

I have no problems with 3702i connecting, they have downloaded their image OK.

Any ideas?  The feature matrix says that the AP802 should be supported on the 8.3 code.  Is there a way of checking the integrity of the AP-802 load on the WLC?

You need to also install the AP Supplemental Bundle for your 5508 (same applies to 2504 and WiSM2 WLC models) when upgrading to 8.3 and above code. This is detailed in the corresponding release notes for 8.3.102.0:

http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/release/notes/crn83.html#pgfId-1437983

Going forward you should install both of these images accordingly (will be needed for any subsequent, new release on the 2504/5508/WiSM2 WLC):

  • AIR-CT5500-K9-8-3-102-0.aes
  • AIR-CT5500-AP_BUNDLE-K9-8-3-102-0.aes

If the WLC was already upgraded to 8.3.102.0 code previously, then you can just install the supplemental AP bundle by itself at this time.

Thank you Michael,  so much documentation, so little time and nothing came up in the searches I had done.

@Cisco - it would be useful if this is also highlighted in the support matrix for the 8.3 release as well.
