Apple bonjour service

After reading

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/hw/wireless/ps4570/products_tech_note09186a0080bb1d7c.shtml#vlanselect

and

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps10315/products_tech_note09186a0080b78900.shtml

I have an decent idea on how to do this. But one thing I am not so sure of is how to do this with an existing configuration. Do I just replace their client-a1 and client-a2 example WLANs with our current ones? Also i am a little confused about how the clients DHCP assignments will work on the current VLANS, guessing that they won't be affected but just not sure.

Any tips, hints or slightly less confusing examples would be appreciated.

Jason

The deployment guide you were refering is bit outdated. Makesuer your WLC is having 7.4.110.0 or 7.5.x for improved features on this service.

1. http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/technology/bonjour/Bonjour74.html

2. https://supportforums.cisco.com/community/netpro/wireless-mobility/begin-wireless/blog/2013/01/01/wireless-lan-controller-wlc-release-74--bonjour-gateway-configuration-example

Here is an example of how I configured in my network (Apple TV is on wired network though). This may be useful to you as well.

Rasika, Yeah, what I found on airserver.com website so thanks for the updated one, and yes running 7.4. I'll be reading your links. Thanks.

Hi Jason,

Here is the 7.5.x Apple Bonjour deployment guide. Read this as well since this code has some improved feature on this service.

By the way thanks for rating the response.

Rasika, Thanks. One last thing, I need to trunk the wired VLANs to the controller and create interfaces for each VLAN on the controller so I can see wired devices on different subnets, correct?

You need to trunk only wired vlan where your Apple TV sits. (if you are following my example) & create a dynamic interface on the controller.

Thats what I thought.

I have trunked a wired vlan to the controller, but not seeing the AirPlay server machine(basically an AppleTV). I do still have multicast turned on, will that make a difference?

Also, one weird thing. When i look at Domain Names under mDNS, one entry is repeated about 99 times.

Enabling multicast is not required (though my network already configured for that), follow that deployment guide closely.

Also makesure "mDNS snooping" enabled.

Try to clear mDNS table using WLC CLI command "clear mdns service-database all" & see the domain name keep repeating.

OK. Leaving multicasting on for now until I can configure the rest of the vlans.

I did try the clear command and refreshing the page, but still appeard there. Went to the machine and killed AirServer disabled/enabled global mDNS and then the host went away, but have had a few other hosts take its place. I think AirServer is choking things a bit.

Rasika, I think I may have found a bug of some sort. If I use the CLI and do a show mdns domain-name-ip summary I see a full list, with no duplicates. I think I am going to upgrade to 7.5 code this weekend and see if it still happens.
