AppleTV & iTune over Wireless issue

oded

Level 1

I have a NMEWLC code 7.0.98 and four AIR-LAP1131AG-I-K9.

I want a device called AppleTV which streams video, to connect over the air and be able to get from PC's (on the wired network) that have the iTune application - video content.

already configured multicast on the controller.

I am able to estblish network connection and see the PC from the AppleTV device, but we cannot browes the PC for the files.

this problem doesn't happen when I connect everything over LAN, so I guess the problem reside on the wireless side....

can anyone help?

Hi Oded,

This might depend on how Apple TV is trying to access your PCs and if this method is supported/configured correctly all the way from the wireless to the wired side.

For example, is Apple TV accessing your PCs via multicast to a specific group?

If so, could you please attach the text output of the "show run-config" and also let us know which multicast group is used between Apple TV and the PCs?

Regards,

Fede

Hi Fede

"For example, is Apple TV accessing your PCs via multicast to a specific group?"

How can i tell?

I didn't configure it to a specific group - just enabled multicast on the controller.

Thanks for your help.

Thank you Oded.

What I'd like to know is how/through which protocol Apple TV is contacting/browsing the wired PCs.

Is this a unicast or a multicast IP for example?

Which language is it using? Is this Bonjour for example?

This would allow us to tell whether we should start worrying about multicast configuration, for example.

A good start would also be to check on one of the wired PCs if you can ping the Apple TV and, if yes, to verify through a Wireshark trace the traffic flow and where it gets interrupted.

Regards,

Fede

1.     What I'd like to know is how/through which protocol Apple TV is contacting/browsing the wired PCs. Is this a Unicast or a multicast IP for example?

I tried both, but I don't know well the Apple TV

2.     Which language is it using? Is this Bonjour for example?

I believe Bonjour

3.     check on one of the wired PCs if you can ping the Apple TV

Yes there's a ping - it doesn't look like a L3 problem - I can see the remote PC over WIFI on the Apple TV but cannot browse for files (which as i said doesn't happen for the same scenario on wired environment)

4.     How Apple TV is trying to access your PCs and if this method is supported/configured correctly all the way from the wireless to the wired side? For example, is Apple TV accessing your PCs via multicast to a specific group?

I configured Multicast but didn't configure a group, any example to how it should be done? Is it better to use Unicast?

Anyhow thanks for your help - Has anyone seen this problem before?

Oded
