Typically AP will get IP address and WLC IP address info from DHCP (via IP helper address here). Then AP just need L3 connectivity to communicate with WLC. It establish a CAPWAP tunnel with WLC.

Hope it helps!

But how that l3 connectivity is done and do I have to update anything on the wlc abt the user or ap vlan for the discussion sake if at the site my ap and user vlan subnet is changing do I have to update anything on wlc ?

Hi Sherrikhan,
There are two communication:
1. AP to WLC via CAPWAP
2. WLC to core(switch)/infrastructure.
for 2 you need to create user vlans on wlc as well as on switch.
In case of Vlan subnet change, you need to update client subent but for AP vlan creation is not required.
