C9800-Cloud HA

Hi all,

I have a working WLC with 4 Flexconnect profiles and 2 local-mode profiles. I am trying to create an HA, but for some weird reason, it's failing. Another strange part is on the 2nd WLC, only Local Mode APs are joining. The rest of the APs using FlexConnect profiles are not joining the new WLC. When I built the HA and restarted the devices, they all failed to return online. I then logged in to ESXi and found out they were both in (Recovery Mode) after restarting the VMs, they all came back online, but still no HA.

Each WLC has its mgmt interface in the same range, and when creating the HA, I am using IPs in the same range as the mgmt. The working WLC with all set up is the primary with a priority of 2, and for the 2nd one, I did not change the priority, only the device number to 2. The only difference is that the 2nd WLC has basic configs; I did not add SSIDs, AP tags, etc., hoping the device will sync all the configs after HA formation. Both devices are running 17.12.01

- Start by validating the current configuration on both controller (especially the primary I guess) ; use the CLI command
show tech wireless and the feed the output into : https://cway.cisco.com/wireless-config-analyzer/
Advising to use it on the 2nd controller too.

Both are Cloud VM ?

When you build HA - that means the primary what ever information will be replicated to Secondary - if any difference in Secondary will be overwritten by Cloud.

Just look the HA deployment guide and understand the requirement and verifications :

Yes, both are virtual machines (VMs) hosted on ESXi. I appreciate your confirmation that all the information from the primary will be replicated to the secondary WLC. I will take some time to review the link you provided. Many thanks for your assistance.
