Cable to use with a POE switch to power the specified AP.

Hello Team,

Kindly advise me which cable can use to power the IW3702-2E-E-K9 AP using a POE switch?

I was wondering if the normal RJ45 will do?

Also, as a second option which power injector will work, the customer is based in South Africa.

Thanks.

Normal RJ45 will not work. You need shielded cable with M12 X-Code connector at the AP side. Even if you use standard POE adapter make sure that POE adapter is POE+ or UPOE capable, and you terminate the AP side to M12-X code connector. For inline power you need POE+ or UPOE capable switches.

Installation guide is very comprehensive.

What environmental elements will the cable be exposed to?

@Leo Laohoo Is a mining area.

I think I did not pose the question correctly. The first question is, can the AP use a normal RJ45?

Then the 2nd will be for a mining area which cable will be best for that kind of environment?

For mining look for industrial-grade cables which can tolerate high temperature, humidity, a lot of dusts and constant vibration.

And do not skimp on the cost of a cable.  The cheaper the cable, the higher the chance of failure.

Hello,

In a strictly theoretical world, the following is true about PoE:

- PoE - Cat3 or above needed - 100m

- PoE+ - Cat5 or above needed - 100m

- PoE++ - Cat5 or above needed - 100m

Past these lengths, PoE injectors are needed.

All of these use the R45 plug (as fibre can't provide PoE)

However, in the real world, the environment you have referred to, I would 100% recommend some shielded (STP) cable that is at least Cat6 to stop any interference from various mining equipment. I massively agree with @Leo Laohoo here and make sure to use high-quality cable. That cheap stuff just will not cut it here.

**Edit**

Apologies, I had not fully clocked the model of AP. Yes, a normal RJ45 type connector will not plug into the AP. It needs to be the M12 X code connector.

Hope this helps you out!

Tim
