Okay, here is a quick question. How is the best way to calculate vertical beam width for wireless antenna's.
Here is an example. Let's say you have a 12db OMNI with a 7 degree V beam width. It's mounted on a pole 100' in the air. .25 miles away we have a 13db Yagi with a 25 degree vertial width. The Yagi is mounted 30 feet in the air.
So, basically how would I calculate at what distance would the signal for the OMNI would hit the yagi?

Spencer.
If you draw it out close to scale on a bit of paper you will be able to see the geometry and calculate this using basic Trigonmetry.
What you have not taken into account is the curvature of the earth or the frensel zone.
If you use this excel work sheet you will be able to see the heigh your antennas need to be.

It will also help you calculate the range expected with a given antenna combo and data rate
