Can an IW6300 work as an Autonomous-Standalone AP?

I have a client with AP 1552H for Hazardous environments, and 5508 WLCs, and now he needs new APs for hazardous environments, but 1552H are EoS, so the only available model is the IW6300 but it's only supported in software 8.10.105.0, and the 5508 WLC only has support until version 8.5.

The idea would be to buy the IW6300 but configure it by console or HTTP so that it works autonomously without the need of a WLC, at least for somewhat less than a year while the client replaces his current WLCs for the new Catalyst 9800 with IOS XE 17.1.1s and above that support the IW6300. (Or at least the old 3504, 5520, 8540, vWLC or an SER that do support the version 8.10.105.0).

I haven't been able to find any guide to configure it as Standalone, and I understand that "a long time ago", the 1700/2700/3700 were the last series of APs with autonomous APs, and I understand there are some Mobility Express APs with a StandAlone feature enabled, but it's like when they get offline from the WLC but their main working mode is through the WLC and besides... I understand that the IW6300 is CAPWAP... so...

One last option would be to buy the IW3700 that is supported by the WLC5508, but, it is not Class I, Division/Zone 2 like the IW6300...

The IW6300 and ESW6300 access points can operate in the following modes:

  • Unified mode

    • Local

    • Flexconnect

    • Bridge

    • Flexconnect with Bridge

    • Sniffer

  • Workgroup Bridge

When the mirror will then always repond to me with ' The only thing that exceeds your brilliance is your beauty! '
