Cannot upgrade an AP1242 to LWAP using the upgrade tool 3.4

I have installed the tool on an XP laptop.

If I configure the tool to use an external tftp server then I get upgrade failed.

"Unable to Load  the LWAPP Recovery Image on to the AP"

If I use the built in tftp server I get a msgbox with "C:\Program Files\Cisco Systems\Upgrade Tool\images\c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.123-11JX1.tar - LWAPP Recovery Image is not a valid one".

I see from other posts that JX image is required but it is not working for me. Can anyone help?

A couple of things to check.

Double check that the windows firewall is disabled, or if you can't disable it, that the tftp service is allowed to pass.

I'd also check the folder permissions and see if "Hide known file types" is checked.

Thaks for the reply but I have checked and the firewall is already disabled. File types are visible. It seemes the image is not acceptable to the tool. I have tried the following images all with the same reply " LWAPP Recovery Image is not a valid one"

c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.123-7.JX9.tar.

c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.123-11JX1.tar.

c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.124-10b.JDA.tar.

c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.124-21a.JA2.tar.

All are listed as Upgrade Autonomous to LWAPP images for the AP1242.

Here's an easy way:  If the AP can ping the TFTP server successfully then issue the following series of commands:

1.  Copy the RCV file to the AP using the command "archive download-sw /over /no-set tftp:///.tar".

2.  Erase the config of the AP using the command "write default"

3.  Reboot the AP to the new IOS using the command "reboot".

If I try to extract the tar file direct to flash I get this:

ERROR: Failed to extract from archive file tftp://10.1.1.1/c1240-rcvk9w8-tar.123-11JX1.tar

Maybe the files are damaged but I have dowloaded them all from cisco.com yesterday.

Sounds like the file is corrupt.  Re-download from the Cisco website and once complete, compare the MD5 values.

Yeah it was the image. Downloaded a new filevia Java and it worked fine.
