Channel levels in custom mode

Hi,

While configuring 3500 Ap's , we noticed that changing the mode from local to bridge/others, gave the below error message;

"Unable to set the bridge mode. Reason:backhaul channel & Tx power must be in custom setting. Please

change the 802.11a channel & Tx power assignment method from GLOBAL to Custom"

Why does this happen when moving the ap out of local mode? & will the change of assignment method be global or individual to ap's.

Appreciate all inputs.

HI Suthomas,

As per my knowledge:  If you change the setting Globaly on this AP then all other AP in network will be affected by this.

Just for your Information:

Simply changing the Mode from local to Bridge will not help you!! The time u change the mode to bridge, then its called MESH network design.

Here is the Mesh AP design and Deployment Guide:

http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/technology/mesh/7.0/design/guide/MeshAP_70.html

Hope it helps.

HI Suthomas,

I think u have few more AP connected to WLC and WLC is setting TPC and DCA GLOBALY.

What u can do it to change the this setting from Global to Custom.

1. Choose Wireless > Access Points > Radios > 802.11a/n to open the 802.11a/n Radios page

2. Move your cursor over the blue drop-down arrow for your AP and choose Configure. The 802.11a/n Cisco APs > Configure page

3. For the RF Backhaul Channel Assignment, choose the Custom assignment method, and select a channel from the drop-down list.

4. For the Tx Power Level Assignment, choose the Custom assignment method, and select a power level.

5. Click Apply to commit your changes

and then try to change the mode of AP.

Hope it helps.

Thanks. Is there any reason, why these AP doesn't accept Global settings.

I had the same problem, but after changing the Channel and TX Power the AP can't joint the controller.

I received the message:

"Radius authorisation of the AP has failed.

AP got or has been disconnected."

Is there any suggestion to AP join again?

All,

I have something similar to this issue.  Trying to make a 3602e with external antenna a root access point and I got the same error as noted above.  However when I go to Wireless>Access Points>Radios>802.11a/n, there is no drop down option under the antenna column.   So I can't configure for some reason in 802.11a/n.  Any suggestions?

Thanks,

     John

I have the same issue with a c1500.

I'm trying to configure flex+bridge and the WLC version 8.0 software advises me to change the tx power and channel from global to custom. I am able to change the tx power to custom however I can't see the option to change the channel to custom.

Do you know how to change the AP channel to custom (no globally controlled)?

This is preventing me from getting the AP into bridge+flex mode.

Thanks,

Will
