Cisco 1231g + Intel 2200BG + AES?

I'm slightly confused. The Cisco docs for the latest IOS release seem to state that AES is working in this release. The Intel docs claim that the 2200BG client card is also enabled for AES.

When I connect the two using WPA-PSK, they maintain a solid connection. In contrast, I have not gotten any connection at all between the client and the AP when I set them both up to use AES. What's going on?

I'm running XP Pro SP2 and letting the OS control the wireless connection.

XP Pro support WPA and (TKIK or AES)

Cisoc AP support:

WPA - TKIP

WPA2 - AES

It does not support WPA-AES

Try using intel Proset in WPA2-AES, it works.

You also need the right level of hardware.

Q. Which Cisco Aironet 1200 Series 802.11a radio modules support WPA2 and AES?

A. Cisco Aironet 1200 Series radio modules with the part numbers AIR-RM21A or AIR-RM22A support WPA2 and AES. The Cisco Aironet 1200 Series radio module with the part number AIR-RM20A does not support WPA2 or AES.

You can check the hardware Rev level in the WebGUI under the "Interfaces|802.11 radio 0 (or 1) screen.

I'm using 802.11g, not a.

I didn't understand the previous posters comments. He wrote:

There is no setting in the AP1231g for WPA2 -AES, but the docs say it supports AES.

Does it support AES with WPA-PSK?

If not, what configuration works with the 1231g and the 2200bg to en>able AES?

I still thnk it's hardware related.

When I was running the ap20 "a" radio, the 1230 wouldn't do AES ... I could set it up and it would accept it, but no AES on either radio.

Now that I've upgraded to the AP21 "a" radio, AES works ok on both sides.

I believe the AP21 radio has an encryption co-processor on it that is shared between the A and G systems.

I also updated the IOS to 12.3(4)JA.

I'm not sure ... it's just a stab in the dark at this point, I'm still looking into it.

Good Luck

Scott

Scott,

I DON"T HAVE AN "A" RADIO.

Does anyone know if the AP1231g running 802.11g does AES? If so, could they point to a config listing?
