Cisco 5760 controller in centralized mode supports 4404 controller as anchor controller?

Hello All,

I have a cisco 5760 controller running in centralized mode. I want to configure one 4404 controller as anchor controller to work with the 5760 controller. Is this supported?.

Yes it is but only limited.  

Do you have funds to purchase two more APs?  If you do then there is a new Cisco promo which will give you a WLC2504 (with 25 AP licenses) for FREE.    Each of the bundle line items is made up of two APs plus, as mentioned above, a WLC2504 (with 25 AP licenses) for FREE.

Product codes are:

• AIR-AP1702I-WLC
• AIR-AP2702I-WLC
• AIR-AP3702I-WLC

Ideally, you can use the 2504 as an up-to-date anchor controller.

No, It is not supported.

You cannot have a mobility peer with 5760 unless you enable "new mobility" on its peer . In CUWN products this is supported in 5508/WiSM2/8510 on specific codes. In current supported codes it has to be 7.6.x or 8.x.

As you know 4400 only supported upto 7.0.x code. So new mobility is not supported, hence you cannot peer with CA products.

Hello Rasika,

Thanks a lot for your reply. Regarding the 4400 as anchor controller I understood your point. Now I have another question. Lets say I have 10 points in 5760 controller and another 10 access points in 4400 controller , can I add the 4400 and 5760 in the same mobility group?. I believe we cannot do it. But please confirm.

You can have the mobility group name the same, but like Rasika mentioned about the 'new mobility', since the 4400's don't have that option, mobility between the 5760 and the 4400 will not be formed. This means that if a user roams from one ap on the 4400 to the 5760, you will not have fast roaming.
