Cisco support for Linux LEAP supplicants?

I have an excited bunch at our customer who are concerned about using the open source linux supplicants for LEAP. Their concern is that since Cisco still claims LEAP as proprietary, they cannot legally use these open source supplicants. They have requested that we find out: (my preliminary findings are after each question)

1) Does Cisco officially support any embedded linux LEAP clients?

a. Yes, if using their adapter

2) Does Cisco license or provide (for purchase) any supplicants or source code?

a. Don't know yet.

3) Are the available open source implementations of LEAP supplicants considered illegal / infringing by Cisco?

a. Don't know yet.

The next fly in this ointment is that we do not use a Cisco card in our device. Cisco does not provide one in the Compact Flash form factor that we are aware of. So the next questions are:

4) Does Cisco have available any 802.11b or 802.11g card in a Compact Flash form factor?

a. Not that I could find on the web site, or by searching the entire Cisco US-global price list. Looks like PCI, PCMCIA, or CardBUS. Cisco wireless adapters: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/customer/products/hw/wireless/ps4555/prod_models_home.html

5) If no, then do they recognize any other vendors CF cards as LEAP compliant, in that Cisco supports their use on a Cisco Network running ACS?

a. Cisco has a partner program, http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partners/pr46/pr147/partners_pgm_brochure.html and http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partners/pr46/pr147/partners_pgm_partners_0900aecd800a7907.html and http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partners/pr46/pr147/partners_pgm_partners_0900aecd800901b3.html but upon cursory examination I did not find a CF adapter from one of the partners. More exhaustive search may be required.

6) I’ve seen elsewhere that because LEAP is not nearly as good as PEAP or EAP/TLS, Cisco is discouraging it’s use. We have a very large installed base that we must interoperate with, so we have to be able to support LEAP as well as the other, more robust methods. Is Cisco discouraging the use of LEAP?

a. The Q&A document from CCO on LEAP does not indicate, one way or the other.

So, can anyone shed some additional light on these topics?

Thanks,

Jason
