Cisco WLC Suggested IOS

Dear All,

WLC IOS 8.2.16X or 8.2.X series which were given earlier as stable images have been removed and gone to 8.0.X series for as most stable series for deployment.

I have tried 8.2.16x series most of my customer are complaining about disconnection which never happened before 8.2.16X series.

Now should we return back to 8.0.X series or is there any other image which is better you think is stable running perfectly fine.

We are running Cisco ISE authentication with all features and voice in the wireless.

We are running v8.5 with no issues. Spoke to some folks in the BU during Cisco Live and they too suggest v8.5.

Hi Scott,

Which verison of 8.5? there is 8.5.131 for 2500 controller.

i have faced issues on client which randon ping drops without any issues in 8.2.16X post upgrades and its not making sense. even did a change of location to rule out any coverage or anything of that sort.

So now its just last resort to upgrade the controller so i am also thinking to go 8.2+ which is cisco ED image and no image is there which is marked as MD.

Even 8.5 is marked as ED so i am just little confused should i take risk to go to 8.5, What you think

about it?

As i have only 1800 AP so i has to be 8.2+ image

I would go with the latest. Just because it’s ED doesn’t mean it’s not stable. There are code that had the gold star and latter got deferred.

Here is a good link with TAC recommended versions. It’s not the holy bible on what to use, it’s a good suggestion however.

Hi Nitesh,

I agree with Scoot. I'm running 8.5MR3 at multiple customers without any issues.

regards,
Jonas
