Coexisting Controllers: 5508s

Has anyone seen performance issues running two 5508 controllers on the same network? One is running 7.3.101.0, the other is running 7.0.98.0. The legacy APs are connected to the WLC on the older code to support older hardware. The new WLC is accepting all the new 3600 APs. Once all legacy APs are replaced, the 5508 on old code will be disabled.

Thanks

That is fine... you just have to be careful of the AP's trying to join the other WLC since they are in the same subnet.  Part of the AP discovery is a layer 2 broadcast to discover any local WLC's.  You should be fine though.  I typically would enable Authorize MIC APs against auth-list or AAA on each WLC just to prevent AP's from joining the WLC.  This command will deny any AP's from joining, but will keep existing AP's on the WLC.  So if your environment is stable, then go ahead and enable this.  When you start adding AP's to the new WLC, then disable this until the AP is in the RUN state then enable it back.  This is optional and only if you really want to prevent AP's from trying to associate to the wrong WLC.

Thanks,

Scott
