Configuring AIR-CAP2702i-B-K9 as Standalone Access Point

Hi Everyone,

I was hoping I might be able to find someone who can help here. We purchased a Cisco AIR-CAP2702i-B-K9 access point for a satellite office from a third party vendor (SHI) and we are getting ready to try to set up and configure it.

This model is supposed to be one that can be configured as it's own wireless controller right? (That's what we were told)

We have not been able to find any configuration guides that show us how to set it up without connecting it to a network to detect a separate controller device.

We want to use it for wireless on a pretty small/flat network (Just a primary and guest network) in a small office.

Does anyone happen to have any advice on how to do this or help on where to find a guide to set it up as it's own controller? (How to connect to it, configure it, etc.)

Anyone that could provide some light would be so very much appreciate!!

Thank you for your time!

-Tom L

Hi @tlaretto

First you need to verify is you have a standalone AP or capwap AP.  You can do that by connecting to it using a console cable and issuing the command show version.

If this AP is standalone, you need to setup it with SSID, IP, gateway , etc.

Let´s see if you can confirm that and then we can provide some guidance on the configuration.

Excellent!

Thank you Flavio!

This is a great starting point. They are going to have me start working with it early next week (hopefully). I'm pretty sure it's a standalone, but will try what you recommended to confirm.

I won't have access to touch it until then, but I will post back here when I get my hands on it and get to try this.

Thank you!

Alright!  It is pretty easy to confirm. When you type show version, you might see:

------------------ show version ------------------

Cisco IOS Software, C1130 Software (C1130-K9W8-M), Version 12.4(25e)JAM, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc1)

This is an example. The K9W8 means standalone AP. If you have k9w7 instead, this means Lighweight AP.
