Hello,

        I have AIR-AP1231G-E-K9 and have IOS corrupted. Now i landed to rommon mode (ap:).

I tried to set

DEFAULT_GATEWAY=10.0.0.1
DEFAULT_ROUTER=10.0.0.1---> Default
IP_ADDR=10.0.0.1---> Default

IP_ADDRESS=10.0.0.1
IP_SUBNET_MASK=255.255.255.224--->Default

NETMASK=255.0.0.0
TFTP_FILE=c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JED1.tar
TFTP_SERVER=10.0.0.2

I dont see any option of tftpdnld from ap: mode, i can see tftp_init but its not helping me anyway.

I had c1240-k9w7-mx.124-10b.JDA3 IOS installed and copied c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JED1 into flash and reloaded the AP, I was running out of flash space, so i deleted old IOS and copied new IOS,When i rebooted i got this error

If you interrupt the system boot process, the following
commands will reinitialize ethernet, tftp, and finish
loading the operating system software:

    ether_init
    tftp_init
    boot

The system is unable to boot automatically because there
are no bootable files to boot.

C1200 Boot Loader (C1200-BOOT-M) Version 12.3(2)JA3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2)

Yes you can, the fact that you cannot ping it does not mean it can not stablish  a TFTP transfer.

follow this procedire

This method is the easiest method to recover your corrupted IOS.

Using a TFTP Server to Return to a Previous Release

Hope this works.

Right the problem was that you uploaded to the AP an IOS from a 1240 and not for a 1230 unit..

So the best way should be the procedure that was just mentioned before...

initialize flash and save the configuration...

then recover the unit and upload again the config to the AP..

many thanks

But it stuck at ap: mode only i cannot ping it or do anything from network....

lemme see

seems i cannot do TFTP transfer

ap: set IP_ADDR 172.16.0.224

ap: set NETMASK 255.255.255.0

ap: set DEFAULT_ROUTER 172.16.0.223

ap: tftp_init
tftp_init success: You can now use tftp file system!

ap: !

ap: tar -xtract tftp://172.16.0.223/c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JED1 flash:
tftp://172.16.0.223/c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JED1: connection timed out

I disable all firewalls, increase timeout for TFTP server to 60 secs, i dont even see hits on TFTP server or no data transfer can be seen on my NIC.

See my TFTP settings as well...

did you initialized the ethernet?

ether_init

sorry i have overlooked it. Yes after ether_init, i can see hits on my TFTP server, but still no sucess.

AP:

ap: tar -xtract tftp://192.168.133.1/c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JED1 flash:
tftp://192.168.133.1/c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JED1: no such file or directory

TFTP LOGS:

Connection received from 192.168.133.160 on port 1059 [20/04 16:25:16.687]
Read request for file . Mode octet [20/04 16:25:16.703]
File : error 5 in system call CreateFile Access is denied. [20/04 16:25:16.703]

Can you please let me know what i am missing ?

Thanks & Regards

Ahmed...

I  guess you are missing the .TAR at the end of the file name...

it should be something like: c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JED1.tar

it worked and now upgraded to 12.3 working perfect

Thanks for your support

great,

This method is not often used. However it has been really helpful for me..

Please dont forget to rate the posts and to mark this as solved.

Dont forget to use the archive command to perform the normal upgrade on the AP.

archive download-sw /overwrite /force-reload tftp://IP/ios.tar
