DHCP configuration issues with Wireless

q-le
Level 2
Level 2

Hi ALL,

We currently have WLC 5508 setup with our Windows DC setup as DHCP server.

Currently when a laptop or client connect to our wireless it got DHCP IP from our domain DC server.

it is setup with /24 and it works well and there is no issues.

However we recently  just run out of IP adds so we increase our range to /22.

hence we update the new settings in Scope in our DHCP server, and in WLC interface set up.

For testing purpose , i just give myself an static IP add in the new range /22 and cannot get it to work.

how does dhcp WORK in  WLC  ?

did i miss a step in the configuration ?

Any advise are much appreciated.

Thanks

Peter

so how do we test for /23 or /22 where we do not have enough devices to reach it.

If you already changed network to /22 and you got ~250 devices on that new subnet working properly, then do not worry about.

Your network will work without any problem for ~1k devices. Assigning 172.18.155.1/22 does not prove any special thing.(ie capacity point of view)

Hi Peter,

Under WLAN Advanced configuration, there is a tick box for allow DHCP address, if you tick that option, then static client won't be allowed

I would suggest you to test your client to be DHCP & see if it get IP from /22 network you mapped

Hi Rasika,

Thank you for your advice.

we have currently  approx 254 devices and dhcp work well for /24.ie 172.18.152.0/24

we just update to /22 for future growth.

so how do we test for /23 or /22 where we do not have enough devices to reach it.

That is why we try to emulate static IP ie 172.18.155.1/22.

Thanks

Peter
