Does an Ad hoc network cause interference?

This may be a bit of a stupid question but here goes anyway.

I'm doing a wireless site survey and NetStumbler has discovered a few "peers". My understanding is that a "peer" in their terms is a client that is set in ad hoc mode. Will this client cause interference with the infrastructure APs assuming there's a channel overlap? Or do there need to be two peers communicating with eachother to cause interference.

Thanks in advance,

Chris

I never use NetStumbler before. Thus, I do not know the meaning of peers.

In term of interference, both infrastructure and ad hoc devices are the same. They pick a channel and cause interference when they transmit frames.
