Hi Community, we orderd the wrong version of the 1852, Mobilitygoup-Version instead of CAPWAP. Stupid, but normally not the biggest problem. I found here: https://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/wireless/controller/technotes/8-4/b_cisco_mobility_express_8_4/b_Mobility_Express_Deployment_guide_chapter_0111.html?dtid=osscdc000283 the solution: (Cisco Controller) >config ap unifiedmode But: Just one AP update works. The next 3 devices aborted the update with error: Cisco AP/SWITCH name is invalid. I've checked my input, there is no fault, Hostname and IP are typed correctly. The IP Range is free (Firewall) to connect to th controller, there are 20 APs working in. The AP is able to ping the IP of the controller. Ping Hostname doesn't work the IOS of the AP dosn't support ping Hostnames. I jump over the point "system-name" in autoinstall, but there is no change if a name is set. Any Ideas? BR Siggi

Hi Rasika, thx for your reply! this option is not available in IOS 8.4.100 @All: i found a solution: A logic system-name must be given in auto-install. Define the name later by CLI didn't work. Use a bullsht-name (sasdklgjfbwrilvb) didn't work. I'm a little confused about the reasons, but it works. BR Siggi

Did you try "ap-type capwap" command on AP CLI itself, instead of WLC

Hello,

I ran into the same problem but finaly realised how to enter the "ap-type capwap"
From a console cli, once first setup tutorial is done, and logged in with the just created credentials just type :

apciscoshell

Then type enable and it asks for the password again.
Then you can type "ap-type capwap", it asks for reboot and after that is detected by the controler !
