Hello,

Is it possible to roam between access points in Flexconnect mode when the WAN is down?

Yes, it is possible, but it depends entirely upon the authentication method that you are using.

What authentication method are you wanting to utilize?

Thank you Jordanburnet,

I'm planning on using local authentication WPA2/PSK

You should be fine, as long as you are using flexconnect local switching. Make sure your WLAN is set up to allow local switching and the APs are set up as well.

Here are some limitations for Flexconnect in a WAN failure scenario:

FlexConnect Backup Scenario
WAN Down Behavior (Bootup Standalone Mode)

  • Central Switched WLANs will shutdown
  • Web-auth WLANs will shutdown
  • Local Switched WLANs will be up :
    • Only Open, Shared and WPA-PSK are allowed.
    • Local 802.1x allowed with local authentication or local RADIUS
  • Unsupported features
    • RRM, CCKM, WIDS, Location, Other AP Mode, NAC.
