How much latency can CAPWAP tolerate?
I have a few remote locations where all I can get is satellite service (~500ms +).
Has anyone tried CAPWAP APs over satellite?
I have run CAPWAP APs over less than desireable L2L VPN connections sucessfully.
I am thinking I am going have to use an autonomous AP setup for a sat link though.

Over satellite? You'll need to be running H-REAP (aka FlexConnect).

Well...
I tried it running HREAP (why did Cisco change the name?)....it works great IF and only if the access point was previously associated to the controller and the code version was previously synced. Tried using an AP that needed to sync to an updated image...I gave up after 20 minutes...the connecton is really slow and the latency is horrible compared to DSL, T1 or L2L VPN...
A 1262 running an autonomous image works great, and as I only have 6 sites on satellite connections, I think this is the way to go.

I might add that we have had previous poems remotely upgrading switch code at these locations on satellite....

Phil,
I would agree some things are left to be in autonmous mode. This sounds like one of them times. Although, HREAP would work, but as you seen code pushing and the little extra overhead could use expensive sat bandwidth.
