I bought a group of 10 Aironet 1232AGs, and after I enter enable mode cannot enter configuration mode using config t. I think the reason why was because they may have previously been controlled by a WLC. Is there anyway to sort of "reset" them so that I can use them by themselves?

If the image (show ver) is showing "k9w8" instead of "k9w7", then you are running LightWeight APs.
You would need to convert them back to Autonomous using this documentation: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/wireless/access_point/conversion/lwapp/upgrade/guide/lwapnote.html#wp161272
Basic idea is that you connect your computer to the AP ethernet port, assign a specific address, run tftp server application, and then do an AP mode button reset for the AP to download the autonomous image from you computer. Be sure you rename the image identical to what the documentation asks for.
