Several months ago I asked about support for the newer 9800Hx WLCs in monitoring/hybrid mode. Very glad to see that they were added, but very sad to see they still have the 2k AP limit.
Really hoping to be able to attach it to Meraki 1 day for maps and client info instead of using Catalyst Center.

This is how it was designed, if you want a larger number of supported APs you need a "larger" controller, that is, with more features to be able to support a larger number of APs/Clients.

I may not have been clear. It is Meraki with the limit that is much lower than the WLC supports. Our 9800H2 supports 6k APs and we have 3.5k APs registered to it. Meraki will only allow 2k APs on this controller.

You weren't really clear, because I checked the 9800 datasheet.
But in your case, keeping it off Meraki and using Catalyst Center is a more viable option, in my opinion.
Especially because the C9800 has more features.
And another thing is that I don't see the point in adding a Wi-Fi controller to the Meraki dashboard, since Meraki already has its own Wi-Fi solution. So why spend money on a controller if you can just buy the APs?

"Especially because the C9800 has more features"
The controller would still be what is managing the APs. https://documentation.meraki.com/MR/Cloud-Managed_Hybrid_Operating_Mode_for_Catalyst_Wireless_LAN_Controllers
It's fine that you don't see the point, but that is besides the point.
