Hello, AP3700 has ios ver 8.0... after joined to wlc with ver 8.5, the ap is connected to second wlc with ver 8.10. then the AP ios version changed to version 8.10. but we do not know why the AP version changed back to version 8.0 from 8.10? Why it happened? How to prevent the change? Thank you

AirOS WLC controls what firmware the AP should be running on.

If you want the AP to roll back to a different version, move the AP to the WLC with an older firmware version.

Thanks Leo. So there are two ways to upgrade/downgrade. One is to let wlc change ap ios. Second is by tftp transfer ios. Is there a difference between the two ways?

What I understand on your post is there is one way to upgrade ios. From cisco download web site, we can download ios for APs, for example, ap3g2-k9w8-mx.153-3.JK3 is one of image for APs and there are a lot version of the image over there. Looks like there are two image systems. One is something like ap3g2-k9w8-mx.153-3.JK3, another is something like 8.10 etc which is always follow WLC version. It means the AP ios would be upgraded based on wlc, and the image is from WLC. Can you tell what is relation between the two ios systems? Thank you very much.

AireOS has only one way to "manage" what IOS/IOS-XE version the AP runs on.

If you want APs to run "outside" of this then you'll need to use a controller that runs on IOS-XE, like the 9800.  In this scenario, the WLC will run on one version and any APs can run on any other version using individual AP Device Packs.

there are two kinds of versions for AP

for example, ap3g2-k9w8-mx.153-3.JK3 and 8.10.131

What is relation between the two?  Thanks
