Could anyone advise which model of Cisco wireless access point is the highest end standalone/autonomous, controllerless (no controller), model that is not end of life?  Thank you.

you can go with 3600 series which supports autonomous mode , refer link : http://www.cisco.com/c/en_in/products/wireless/buyers-guide.html#~accesspoints

Alternatively you can choose 1800 series access points which has in built controller capability : http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/products/wireless/aironet-1850-series-access-points/index.html

It looks like the 2600, AIR-SAP2602I-A-K9, by Cisco's data sheet, is standalone/autonomous.  I think I may go for this one.  Anyone agree or disagree?

Yes, that is a standalone AP part number. So AP will come with a right image (..k9w7...).

Even you can convert 3602/3702 to Autonomous (as they come with Lightweight image), as long as you purchase AP with Cisco maintenance. In that way you can download required image from cisco.com for the conversion required.

Here are some reference posts in case you need to do this

Hi Rasika, thank you for the reply.  I have an AIR-CAP3702i-A-K9 lightweight access point.  I read a Cisco support community post that was, as I recall, about 2 years old that basically stated something to the effect of that although you could convert a 3702i to autonomous, however, unless you only want to do site surveys...and then went on to mention the documentation.  Here is the post:  https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12250976/convert-3702i-autonomous

Does this still hold true today?

No, you can have full autonomous functionality with 3702 since 8.0 code onward. I think given thread is applicable to pre 8.0 releases HTH Rasika

Rasika is correct. I have a number of 3702 running in autonomous mode without issues.

Rasika - I have a SmartNet contract with my 3702i.  Seeing that I don't do a lot of downloading from Cisco, would this be the proper image to download:  Downloads Home > Products > Wireless > Outdoor and Industrial Wireless > Industrial Wireless 3700 Series > Industrial Wireless 3702 Access Point > Autonomous AP IOS Software-15.3.3-JC2(ED) > ap3g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JC2.tar

George - Thanks for the reply.  I appreciate knowing that it does indeed work.  I was a little worried it wouldn't work from the post I found.

Yes, that image is right for this work.

Downloads Home >Products >Wireless >Access Points >Aironet 3700 Series >Aironet 3700i Access Point >Autonomous AP IOS Software-15.3.3-JC2 >ap3g2-k9w7-tar.153-3.JC2.tar

One last question that I can think of.  I currently have a Wireless Security & Spectrum Intelligence Module connected to my 3702i.  Should I remove this module before I try to convert to autonomous?

Yes, I would remove the module & convert to Autonomous.

I doubt WIPS module supported in Autonomous mode.
