Mobility Express 8.5.151.0 APs rebooting randomly

Hello Everyone,

I wasn't able to find anything similar anywhere else for this in the forums.  We have a couple deployments of mostly 1832s with some 2802 due to the number of APs on software version 8.5.151.0 that are acting up.  Between the two sites there are a few APs, and they appear to only be 1832s from what we've seen, that will crash and reboot.  There doesn't seem to be a pattern around the times or circumstances before that we can tell, but it is always the same APs at each site.  We've tested the cable already and there is also plenty of PoE budget left.  No logs in the syslog server seem to be sent either.

Has anyone come across anything similar or maybe have some insight into the problem?

Thanks,

Aaron

What happens if you upgrade to 8.5.160.0?

Hey Leo,

Sorry for my delay and thank you for your reply.  I looked through the release notes and I didn't see anything about this mentioned so I'm a bit hesitant.  Ultimately if it's a software upgrade that fixes it we would be open to it, however given the effort and number of APs as well as downtime we only want to go down that route if we know it'll work.  The other concerning part is it is just a handful of APs doing this.

Thanks,

Aaron

Check if you see something on the WLC unter Management - Tech Support - AP Crash Log.

Hello,

I looked under all the tabs to be sure, but I was unable to find AP crash logs in the GUI.  We have our controller to log to an external syslog server so maybe that removes that heading.  When I review our syslog server there aren't any messages from either the AP or the controller which is a little puzzling.

Thanks,

Aaron

Console or ssh to the ap and look for the crash file in flash.

Do you have a WLC or are you using Mobility Express? My previous answer is for WLC.

Hello,

We are using Mobility Express.  Attached is the crash log the AP has been off since the post I turned the port on a few hours ago, so this is the most up to date one.  If I can get another after it crashes again I will upload that as well.

This stood out to me but I wasn't sure what could be a possible remedy and why it's occurring on this AP.

AP AP105 crashed at Wed Feb 5 17:38:48 2020 UTC(BOOT_CNT 60) due to:
watchdog reset(wcpd)

Thanks,

Aaron

watchdog reset(wcpd)
coredump: process wcpd

Unfortunately, TAC is probably the only way.

This is a very "generic" crashinfo.
There are so many bugs with the "wcpd" as the cause of the crash.
