MU-MIMO and CSMA/CA

Hi Guys,

Trying to get my head around with the concept of MU-MIMO introduced in 802.11ac.

Based on Cisco, AP can send multiple data frames to multiple users at the same time, I am just wondering how it is possible with CSMA/CA.

My understanding is if we have a 40 MHZ channel on AP 1, and there are 20 users connected to that AP 1, all 20 users are competing for that channel and only one can send/receive data at the same data.Which is we using MU-MIMO, multiple users can receiving data on the same channel at the same time which does not make sence.

Can someone clarify where I am missing.

Thanks,

HM
