Any of these can be converted to Lightweight (CAP/LAP) or Standalone (SAP). If any of these already in standalone mode (or image name contain k9w7) you can use one of the below method to convert it to lightweight.

http://mrncciew.com/2012/10/20/lightweight-to-autonomous-conversion/

http://mrncciew.com/2013/12/13/ap-conversion-using-mode-button/

If AP already in Lightweigh mode (image name contain k9w8 or rcvk9w8) you can connect it to a network & register to a WLC. You can use following document to see which software version (min) of your WLC required to register different type of AP models that you have.

Dear Rasika,

Thank you for your comment. :)

Just one clarification we can convert thses APs n number of times I mean SAP to CAP and then again to SAP, there is no limitation? As I heard that once you convert from SAP to CAP you can not revert it back to SAP?? I am asking because some of them are already converted from CAP to SAP and now I am planning for CAP.

Thank You,

Abhisar

Hi Abhisar,

As long as you have required images you can do this conversion any number of time you like from CAP to SAP & vice versa.

Autonomous codes (ie k9w7) are not freely downloadable from Cisco unless you have a valid service contract, but rcvk9w8 (recovery images for lightweight) you may be able to download from Cisco site without a valid service contract.
