new 5508's on existing Wlan network?

Ive got a couple new 5508 controllers to replace my 4404's.  Im wondering though if I throw them on the network to setup, will there be any conflict witht the current access points?  Will they try and join the new controllers for any reason automatically?  Is there a better way, or a best practice to provision these new controllers?  Thanks

Depends.  If you make them part of the mobility group, the AP could fall over.

What code are you running on your 4404?

If you are running the same code across the 4404 and 5508, there shouldn't be a problem.  So long as everything is equal, software revision, WLAN, Interface, etc.

I would configure the 5508 to match the configs on the 4404 offline, then once all is good put them on the network, and add them to the current mobility group.  Then you can move the AP over from the 4404 to the 5508.

thanks, Im running 7.0.116.0 on the 4400's though I was thinking about using this time to update.  Maybe it would be best to do as you say and load the same code on the 5500's, get them added and then do the upgrade?

I don't like to push too much at one time, since if something goes wrong, you have too many places to look.

First phase I would just get teh new 5508 up, and the AP migrated.  Once you know that is stable, then do the upgrade on the code.
