PoE and 5508 Controller

DBTracy951

Hello

I have a small office area I am trying to implement Wireless access to DSL connection   I have a 5508 Controller and CAP3502I-A-K9  AP.   From what I can tell I 5508 support PoE.  However,  LED for he port I connect the the AP, via a SFP, remains orange.    The link status is down on the ports with the AP attached.  The LED on the AP never comes on.

In the output of the "Sh Port Summary" there is an "N/A" under the PoE header.  From the management GUI there is not advanced option in the wireless/access point.   Docs I have read indicate that the advanced tab is where the PoE option should be configured.   So now I am wondering if this could be a licencing issue-  There is a Base License on the controller.

Any assistance would be apperciated.

Thanks

Dave

5508 doesn't not have PoE ports and is not made to connect APs directly to it. Not sure where you saw the opposite.

Nicolas,

Thanks for answering this.   I didn't see a particular doc stating the 5508 supported PoE. But  on page 8-114 of the Cisco Wireless Controller Configuration Guide v7.0,  there was discussion of configuration of  PoE and sighting of switches but nothing specific about WLC 5500 series.  This is also where the reference of the advanced option I initially referred to was cited.

Thanks Again

Dave

The 2100 and 2500 series have 2 PoE ports.
