PoE issues when powering 1142 LAP

I read in a past discussion that there might be some power issues when powering LAP 1142 having a long CAT5e cable length between the unit and the switch which uses only PoE (not PoE+).  Is this true?  If yes,  what is the maximum cable length beyond which the 15.4W is insufficient?

If this is an issue I will opt for a PoE+ switch such as the Cisco Catalyst 2960S-48FPS-L rather than the Cisco Catalyst 2960-24PC-L but I would like to keep costs to a minimum so I do not want to invest in a switch which pumps extra power which is not raelly required.

I look forward to receving your feedback.

Hi Michael,

PoE should still work with the same standard limitations for Ethernet cables (max. 100 meters):
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3750/software/troubleshooting/power_over_ethernet.html#wp1004493
(the link is under 3750 series switches, but the section should apply to any general PoE switch)

If a cable length respecting the limitation of 100 meters would cause an issue with PoE for 1142 APs, then this would be an issue with the AP or the PoE switch.

Regards,

Fede
