Pre-download 9800 image to AireOS AP

Is it possible to pre-download the 9800 IOS-XE image to a virtual WLC managed 2802/3802 AP before cutting them over to the new 9800-40 controller?

I am using "17.3.4c" as an example.  I have no idea (nor influence) of what people decide on.  

Let me repeat:  If the 9800 is going to be loaded with 17.3.4c, again as an example, then the APs will receive firmware version of 15.3(3)JPJ7c from the controller.  

If the 9800 is going to be loaded with 17.6.2 (first column), for example, looking at the third column, the APs will receive a firmware version of 15.3(3)JPK3 from the controller.
