Prime and Outdoor WLAN-AP 1562 Series Max Tx Power in Planning Mode for Germany

Hello Cisco-WLAN-Freaks,

I need Your help to understand the TX Power Levels available in Cisco Prime Planning Mode

to correctly plan and realize a nice Outdoor WLAN for this nice big hospital terasse with a Cafeteria and

outside seats to enjoy lunch and WLAN while watching the rescue helicopter flight coming in:

I'm struggling now with the maximum power Levels for Germany within 802.11a.

where in Band II with TPC+DFS 1000mW = 30 dBM max are allowed.

Let's assume I would take a 1562e with external antenna AIR-ANT2588P3M-N-5Ghz with 8/8 dBi gain.

Is it allowed to calculate within Prime with the maximum possible value of 28dBM then ?

Or am I allowed to calculate with (30dBM - 8dBi) = 22dBm only ?

Here is the screenshot for You to show my planning with the different 1560 models:

Please advise.

Which model and antenna would You choose by the way ?

Kind regards from Frankonia

Wini

 - Since you are probably planning for your patients to survive once they are carried of the helicopter I would still go  for a physical site survey to be sure about the needed AP-grid. Lifes matter!

I find the Prime planning mode is not accurate, even Cisco normally recommends utilizing site survey software like Ekahau or Airmagnet to do a predictive design.

I suggest if you have to be 100% accurate to do an AP on a Stick survey and physically survey what the coverage will look like.

In Prime you only need to put the Max TX power to the AP it will do the gain for the Antenna. That being said you should do the maths of max TX power and Antenna gain to make sure your not over the maximum EIRP allowed in Germany.

Around what antennas you want to choose, make sure you are looking at what the coverage bleed into the building will be and does that affect the wireless inside by increasing CCI or ACI.

Hello Andrewsa and Marcie,

thank You for Your answers.

But I'm still confused and therefore I post my central question again:

Given values: Germany 802.11a Band II with TPC+DFS 1000mW = 30 dBM max are allowed.

Let's assume I would take a 1562e with external antenna AIR-ANT2588P3M-N-5Ghz with 8/8 dBi gain.

Is it allowed to calculate within Prime with the maximum possible value of 28dBM then ?

Or am I allowed to calculate with (30dBM - 8dBi) = 22dBm as max TX-power in that simulation ?

I'm hopeful that I can avoid interference with APs inside by using 802.11ac-channels.

But we also have external weather and flight radar influence.

Kind regards

Wini
