RF Q: AP installed in wrong country

Hi All,

I have got a wireless setup where users are complaining about intermittent disconnection and roaming issue. So far I am not able to collect debug logs of affected users.

But a quick look into AP summary got my attention.

The site is in Australia (AU) and the WLC is in Singapore (SG). Now the WLC is configured with multiple country. SG and AU both countries are supported.

I see some of the AP installed in AU location is from SG domain and they are registered with SG country code. So I think technically this is expected behavior.

My question is from RF perspective, if I have few SG APs broadcasting in the middle of AU APs installtion, could this cause disconnection and roaming issues for the wireless users?

First I would check all radios up on APs. If not mostly it may be due to wrong country code on those AP (Typically once you configured more than 1 country code on WLC, there is possibility individual AP country code get messed up - in WLC GUI -> AP advanced tab)

If coverage gaps due to certain radio down could lead to roaming issues or drop outs.

All the radios are up and broadcasting. In this case the wrong AP hardware is installed in AU. APs are from SG domain but installed in AU.

Let me if this is helpful or if you need more information.

Thank you.

You should not have a different country approved ap in another country. You can be violating the regulatory body guidelines! AP’s are manufactured with the country code during production except if you have purchased Universal AP’s which have a model of -UX. UX AP’s need to be provisioned at the site it will be installed in order to get the proper country code.
