Is wireless connectivity obtained at the point where two signals meet or must the signal actually reach the recieving antenna?

The electromagnetic waves generated by the transmitter must reach the receiving antenna (and the signal strength must be high enough above the noise floor for the receiver to be able to discriminate the information coded into the signal).

Good Luck
