Running 2 parallel Wifi Networks in a Campus

Hi All,

I have come through a requirement that at one of the my customer, who is already running Juniper's Wireless Infrastructure in their campus, need to build up a new Wireless Infrastructure in Parallel to the existing one. Both will be running on different Physical infrastructure but from the site survey, it is observed that in 80-90% of the locations, they already have APs installed and for the new infra, we have to mount another AP at the same place. My question is that what technical issues/problems will be faced when new APs will be mounted near to the existing APs. Juniper's solution that is deployed is mostly with WLA532 APs and we are proposing Cisco 1602/2602 with WLC.

You two systems will cause more interference with each other than good.  Can you do this... sure, but is it a good idea... no.  Your system might end up changing channels and or power very often and along with the increase in channel utilization, not a very good idea.

Thank you Scott for your reply. I can understand that it is not a good idea, but we have no other way. One infra will be used to Corp network and the new one will solely be used as Hotspot for all. This is requirement that both networks should be separate and we can't integrate it in any way.

Disable one radio band in Juniper, like 802.11b/g.  Enable 802.11a in Juniper.

Disable 802.11a in Cisco and enable 802.11 b/g.

Separation of guest and corporate by installing separate APs for each isn't worth it. If your Juniper solution uses a controller, then u can map the hotspot ssid to a physical port and dump straight to you DMZ or get an anchor controller.
