Seeing the Same SSID Multiple Times on a Single AP and Channel

I have recently had a wireless survey (heatmap) carried out and the results show a single AP is broadcasting the same SSID on the same channel multiple times. There are many APs doing the same thing. The APs are 1832 and the Controller is a 5508.

For example, on one AP the surveyor saw the corporate SSID on Chanel 1 and Channel 6 both showing as WI-FI 3 (802.11g), and on Channel 48 as WI-FI 2 (802.11a).

Why does the survey pick up two instances of 802.11g on the same Channel? Is this normal? Does it indicate an issue?

I see two possibilities here:

1) While the survey was done, the controller changed the channel on this particular AP. In this case the old channel should disappear from a WLAN-scanner soon after this.

2) The surveyor did something wrong.

Agreed with @Karsten Iwen
One other possibility - how was the tool determining that they were "the same AP"?  Long AP names can sometimes confuse tools because they arbitrarily truncate the name so maybe it got the names of 2 different APs confused? (if it was using the AP name instead of MAC to identify the AP).
