SMTP Email Alerts with RVS4000

Hey everyone,

We recently changed mailservers and now I can't get our RVS4000 to email logs via SMTP. We just started using google apps, which run SMTP through port 587 and require authentication. Is there any way of getting the RVS4000 to use a non-standard port for SMTP? Thanks for any help or insight you can offer.

Hey, I ran into a similar issue before when moving to Google Apps. Unfortunately, a lot of older hardware like the RVS4000 is hard-coded to use port 25 for SMTP and doesn't have an option to switch to port 587 or add TLS/STARTTLS.

One workaround is to set up an internal relay server that accepts port 25 from your RVS4000 and then forwards mail to smtp.gmail.com on port 587 with authentication. Another option some people try is using dedicated SMTP services that can accept plain connections on port 25 and still handle proper authentication and encryption upstream.

I’ve also looked into warm-up and deliverability services like warmupsmtp.com which focus on gradually warming up your domain and offer more flexibility when connecting older devices or apps. They don’t fix the port 25 limitation directly, but they do help with overall deliverability and can sometimes provide custom setups.

Hope this helps! Let me know if you want me to sketch out how to configure an internal relay too.
