Some questions about APs and controllers

  Hi guys,

I have some questions :

All access points support 802.1q ?

Is there a big difference between the powers of all the APs ?

What is the bandwidth used on a virtual controller ? Is there some risks to kill the bandwidth of my virtual server ? (3 Dell PowerEdge R720 with 4 NICs per server, approximately 50% used)

Thanks for all !

Raphaël

Yes.

What power?  Radio transmission power or PoE power?

Hi leo, thanks for your answer.

I want to know the radio transmission power of the APs.

The coverage are similar between the APs ?

Normally yes its similar if WLC is assigning but if you want you can change the power setting.

Note:  The Cisco WLC dynamically controls access point transmit power based on real-time wireless LAN conditions.

Depends on the AP.  Nearly all APs with internal antennas have similar antenna propagation footprints.

But if you're talking about external antennas it will depend entirely on the model of your antenna and how it's employed and the height.

If you want to know the radio TX power of a given AP, you need to reference the AP's data sheet and also the countries regulatory domain. You will not ever find a calculator to tell you how much coverage you will have. It is best to have a site survey performed which can determine what AP's, antennas, tx power, location, and how any AP's you need.

As far as using the vWLC, look at the doc Sandeep posted. You need to make sure your ESXi host has enough resources that is required per the document. The server matters, but the available resources that you can give that VM is important.

Yes all AP supports 802.1p.
WLC RRM (CHD)feature decide the power setting for AP.
