Hi

We have a wireless network using LightWeight AP and Controllers. They are in VLAN 271

The switches in the network kept on complains the invalid source mac address seen in this wireless VLAN.

Sep 9 12:51:29.775: %C4K_L2MAN-6-INVALIDSOURCEADDRESSPACKET: (Suppressed 197 times)Packet received with invalid source MAC address (63:50:7B:83:00:01) on port Te1/1 in vlan 271

Sep 11 08:43:35.167: %C4K_L2MAN-6-INVALIDSOURCEADDRESSPACKET: (Suppressed 3 times)Packet received with invalid source MAC address (F1:1C:76:46:00:01) on port Te1/1 in vlan 271

Sep 11 11:04:50.324: %STORM_CONTROL-3-FILTERED: A Broadcast storm detected on Gi5/7. A packet filter action has been applied on the interface.

Any idea? are they generated by the lightweight traffics?

I am not sure whether it is coincidence or not that the MaC addresses have 00:01 as the last 16 bits. But that is not what is generating the error message about invalid MAC address. The errors that it is showing have MAC addresses with the low order bit of the first byte on (63:50:7B:83:00:01 and F1:1C:76:46:00:01). It is the 63 and F1 that are invalid. These addresses have the broadcast/multicast address bit turned on which marks the MAC as a broadcast or multicast address and as such they are invalid as a source MAC address.
