I just had a customer go through an evaluation of Cisco and Symbol controllers. Symbol won out mostly due to a lack of certain features from Cisco. I poked and prodded the Cisco account team and business unit to find out the features were coming later in the year but were not available 2-3 months ago when the customer needed it. I think the lack of ability to handle older model wireless workgroup bridges was the only major issue. The newer wireless workgroup bridges worked fine but the client had many older ones.
The Symbol solution is currently problematic but that seems to be stemming more from a bad configuration on the part of the company that installed it rather than the hardware itself.
It's not much but I hope it helps
