The Problem about WLC8540 HA

Hi everyone： We bought two 8540 controllers, but the AP license only bought one. If two WLCs do HA, the main one hangs, can the standby WLC take over the main license? In addtion,if there is only one set of licenses, is it not possible to do double work?

If running as HA SSO, the standby will inherit the primary's licenses in the event of a failover and I think after 90 days you'll start getting alerts about it.

Licensing for the 8540s tends to be RTU (Right to Use) so in theory I think if you've purchased 1000 licenses for example, you can split that across the two. This won't apply if your secondary unit is specifically purchased as a HS SSO standby unit.

But,if i purchase 1000 license,when the primary wlc down,will the secondary wlc take over the 1000 license?And what meaning about "you can split that across the two"?HS SSO is Hot Standby,right?

If HA is enabled (and working), when the primary fails, the secondary takes over. The primary's AP license gets moved to the secondary.
In order to get HA enabled, the secondary needs to have a 50 AP permanent license.
