TPC Changes Question

Does anyone know if TPC changes, from RRM, cause disconnects of the client and make them roam? I noticed when I manually change the TPC for a radio it disassociates and moves to another AP.

Thanks!

Hello,

Going off memory here with testing I did sometime ago, like late 6.x and early 7.x. DCA does for sure because the channel changes. TCP I want to say didnt. However, if you lower the power enough to cause the client roaming algorythem to trigger it would make sense the client would roam to a test example.

I got the official answer from Cisco TAC Today. When the radio makes the necessary power adjustments through RRM it resets the radio, thus disassociating and requiring the client to roam. When the environment has been stable for some time it's not necessary to have the TPC set to update every 600 seconds as it does, but set to either fixed or on demand.

The range for this parameter is –80 to –50 dBm. Increasing this value (between –65 and –50 dBm) causes the access points to operate at higher transmit power rates. Decreasing the value has the opposite effect.

When there is power change the client tries to search for better signal.
