Unlocked Radio as a Sensor

Greetings.

I have a client who may be purchasing a WLC, and is wondering if we can provide " A band unlocked radio that can be leveraged as a full time sensor for both 2.4 GHz and the 5GHz band."

I have no idea what he is talking about... is that something Cisco can provide?  Or, is that basically a hacked aironet AP?

Can anyone explain?

Sounds like a "monitor" ap. And yes, you can turn a AP on a WLC into a monitor. In fact you can turn it into a sniffer as well or a rogue detector.

Thank you.

Maybe I understood it in another way than George. If the question is "can one AP have the B radio (2.4ghz) servicing clients while the A radio (5ghz) monitors the RF on both bands ?" The answer is no.

Each radio can only work on its band. So either the whole AP services client or the whole AP is in monitor mode but you can't have one radio doing each.
