We attempted to upgrade an AP1220 with a 802.11g upgrade card. The old radio card was replaced with a new card and then we attempted to connect to it with a serial cable to modify the config but could not get logged in. Our login name and password no longer worked. The default Cisco/Cisco login filed also. Replacing the original 802.11b card didn't help. We cannot reset the configuration with the mode button. It doesn't recognize the mode button. This was done on four APs.
How can I reset the AP to the factory delivered settings if I can't log in or use the mode button?

I think the last time I did an upgrade like that, I realise how easily you can bend the two end connectors that hold the radio module, which also makes it loosely fit in the slot. Check to see if the radio is fit properly in place in the slot..
I also read a doc message saying before doing the upgrade from b to g, the IOS has to be upgraded to a min version (cant remember what it was)..Otherwise the AP will keep rebooting..You should have probably done that IOS upgrade before the module install.
I cant think of another way to set to factory defaults, other than to press the mode button..Dont know if the APs have a jumper on their PCB that will set it to defaults..

Hi,
Please try removing the 802.11g radio acrd installed & if you possess the old b radio card, try plugging that in.
If it comes up fine,
1] slot/pins hardware issue: eliminated.
Now, if you have not upgraded the software to 12.2(15)JA or above, please do so.
2] Now, after the upgrade, remove the B card & install the g card & this should resolve the issue.
Thanks & Regards,

As I said before, I did try replacing the original b card but it still didn't work. I cannot log in so I cannot upgrade the software. I cannot get the mode button to function correctly either. All four 1220 APs are acting the exact same way. Something happened to the firmware when the new a radio card was installed.

I stumbled across the answer in document #9215. The secret command is :resetall. It put the AP back to the factory delivered state.
Thanks for all your suggestions!
