Greetings all.
I am a tech savvy individual, but a real Cisco IOS novice trying to figure out if the [old] Cisco AIR-CAP3502I-E-K9 that I was given is something I can use on my home network. The network is very simple, I have a D-Link DIR-825ACG1 router as the main unit (Providing DHCP, Routing and WIFI services) connected to my fibre connection downstairs.
The CAP3502 is connected via CAT6 cable (gets a statically assigned IP via DHCP) to the D-Link, via a PoE device.
I have converted the CAP3502 to autonomous and then tried to follow https://www.ciscopress.com/articles/article.asp?p=426639&seqNum=6 to set it up as a repeater.
The error I see is "Warning Interface Dot11Radio0, cannot associate: NO Aironet Extension IE" when the interface is trying to come up. Some posts suggest this is due the the BSSID device not being a Cisco device with support for Aironet Extension. This post suggests that should not be an issue https://www.exam4training.com/which-reason-for-this-issue-is-true/ , but I am not well versed in the art of CAPs and IOS to figure this one out.
My questions:
- Should this config work?
- Alternatively, how do I set this up as an AP, rather than a repeater (can I use the same SSID as the D-Link)?
- How do I factory reset the unit via a telnet connection? i.e. without access to the mode button (the unit is in the ceiling and a pain to reach physically). Deleting flash:private-multiple-fs, flash:env_vars, flash:private-config and flash:private-multiple-fs followed by a reload has not worked so far.
- I also have an AIR-LAP1131AG-E-K9, would that be easier to use instead?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.
