VLAN connectivity problems on AP1100

sw1

Level 1

Have set up 2 VLANs with SSIDs, as per the documentation on the Cisco site. Neither set to guest-mode. Problem is that unless the SSID is broadcast in the beacon the laptops cannot connect to it. Both of the VLANs have full L3 connectivity when it is their SSID that is broadcast however the one that is not broadcast is totally "invisible" (this is when I swap the broadcast SSID from one VLAN to the other).

Also the case when there is only one VLAN and the broadcast SSID is set to none - I get nothing at the laptop.

Any ideas, am I missing something. Laptops are running XP and PDAs also have the same issue.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanx,

Steve

What is the operating system in PDA?

Are you using Microsoft's Zero Configuration in XP? If this is the case, please go to Netowrk Connections (i.e. "Control Panel"->"Network and Internet Connections"->"Network Connections". Right click on the wireless adapter and select "Properties". If Zero Configuration has started, you have have a tab called "Wireless Networks." From there, there is an "Add" button under "Preferred networks" You should able to add non-broadcast SSID there.

On PDA is Win2003. On the laptop I have added the non broadscast SSID under the preferred networks (as I have done on the PDA as well) but it will not connect until I make it the SSID that is broadcast in the beacon. Have tried it with both open and WEP encryption enabled. Also set up other VLANs allowed through the trunk to the AP and things are the same, as soon as the SSID is in the beacon connection is there, if not broadcast then no connection.

I assume that you are using Microsoft's supplicant, not ACU. I think that you have to ask Microsoft to support non-broadcast SSID, or wait for us to support multiple broadcast SSID.

Does this mean that no one can connect XP clients to VLANs through Cisco APs unless the SSID is broadcast?

What is ACU and if it will work how do I use it?

When is there a release supporting multiple broadcast SSID due?

Cheers.
